MY LIFE IN BRIDGETON
By Victoria
January 5, 2006, was a important day! On that day, I arrived in the United States. I traveled to Bridgeton from Mexico by plane and car. I came with my mom, brother and cousin. We were so scared! We did know some people like my family but we didn’t know them so well. Since that time, I have seen and done a lot. I have also learned many new things.
At first, I didn’t like Bridgeton. It was very different from Mexico City, my hometown. It seemed quieter. I felt homesick for my family and friends. Soon I became acquainted with Bridgeton and now I like it much better. I have discovered lot of new places. I really like the music of Jay Sean. I don’t have a lot of time for fun, but my cousin, Yeci, and I enjoy going to the mall every weekend. I have visited Trenton and other towns where people still speak French and keep their old ways. I love all the interesting accents. Now I think that Bridgeton and the area around it are almost as exciting as Mexico City.
When I arrived, I didn’t know a lot of English. Since then, I have become very fluent and my accent is much better. It hasn’t been easy because English is a difficult language. Nevertheless, I am proud of my English now. I have also learned a lot about American culture. Each person seems to have more freedom, but each person has more responsibility, too. Sometimes a have been so free. I have met many American students and talked to them. I am beginning to feel at home in Bridgeton now.
I plan to stay in Bridgeton until I have graduate from High School. Then, I plan to go back to Mexico City. What about my family? I don’t know. We haven’t really talked about the future. Now I am enjoying the present.
